Forget Where's Waldo: Where's Happiness

Updated: Jan 19, 2021

Growing up as a child, I remember the book Where's Waldo written by Martin Hanford. In the book I would flip through the pages looking for Waldo, a man dressed in a red and white striped shirt, a red and white beanie, denim pants, and round black glasses. I never felt I could move to the next page until I found what I was searching for. Much like looking for Waldo, you too may be in search for happiness. The key ingredient to finding your own happiness is learning to live and thrive in the moment while enjoying the here and now. If we are always anticipating the future, worrying about all that we HOPE to achieve; or analyzing our mistakes from the past then we can't honestly say that we are fully appreciative of our current experience. The prefix re- attached to a word is used with the meaning“again” or “again and again” to indicate repetition, or with the meaning “back” or “backward” to indicate withdrawal or backward motion. Some things aren't always meant to be repeated or refurbished or recycled.

Think of the importance and what it means to your well-being by not constantly ruminating on past experiences. Live fully in your present state and focus on controlling your mind as well as the body from falling victim to negativity. You can't please them ALL nor should one try. How often do we wonder if someone is listening to us, if they understand what we are saying, or merely getting mentally distracted? Sometimes we just need to sit with our feelings, to recognize our EMOTIONS, and acknowledge them, so that we can then process them and be able to let them go and flourish in the universe. It's an important VALIDATION process, we often complain that no one cares or listens, yet we frequently don't listen to ourselves and how we feel either. So maybe just for today you can find a few moments, to check in with YOURSELF, have an internal 'chat', and say, "SELF, what's going on emotionally with you and how do you feel?"

When yourself SPEAKS then you should listen because that my dear is where you find happiness. Butterfly Effect Counseling is here ready to nurture and empower you through providing services such as: play therapy, adolescents, adults, and couples counseling.
